Documenting a Baptism
It isn’t very often that I get a phone call to photograph a baptism and reception. I enjoy event photography but since I’m mainly known for newborn portraiture, I’m not the first person people consider when looking for event photographers. Having the privilege to document this baptism was so special to me. I do love this type of photography though, it gets me out of my comfort zone a bit and I’m able to use my talent to document a special day. Luckily for me, I’ve been photographing this family since the birth of their first daughter and when they were in need of someone to help them capture their second daughter’s Christening, they thought of me!
When I arrived early to the church that morning, I was so excited to the sheer beauty inside. The weather wasn’t cooperating but the gorgeous rays of natural light that filled the church made everything feel magical. I was excited that I was a part of this special day.
Throughout the ceremony, I enjoyed experiencing for the first time this beautiful display of love and devotion. I’ve witnessed baptisms before but none quite like this one. I became filled with emotion many time throughout the service. This little baby is so beautiful and to see her surrounded by so much love and tradition made it so spectacular. I was not just their photographer that day but a witness. I was present. And I was in love with this tradition and what it meant to them. So much joy and love.
