In addition to being a mom myself, I have been working with newborns for over 13 years! I love everything baby and am excited to share a few of my favorite things with you! They certainly don’t qualify as “baby essentials” but they sure do make having a baby fun and enjoyable! It’s time to begin your “non-essential” baby registry shopping!
Baby Shusher
If you’ve read my previous blogs, you know I always use and recommend the Baby Shusher sound machine. During my newborn portrait sessions, it’s constantly on to help me provide a calm and comforting environment for baby. The sound is familiar to baby since it mimics mom’s blood flow in the womb, naturally calming baby. Over the years, new parents would literally see how useful this one little device can be and order it as they sit in my studio! I even brought them into my studio for parents so they didn’t have to wait for theirs to arrive! This little powerhouse is easy to take along with you too but it’s not a bad idea to have a few on hand just in case. You can keep one in the nursery, car and your living space just to have easy access when baby needs a little more comforting.
Little Giraffe
One of my most favorite baby gifts we received was the Little Giraffe luxe baby blanket! In all honesty, this blanket wasn’t something I would have even considered purchasing because it was pricier than other blankets and certainly didn’t seem essential. But, let me tell you how much I love this blanket! It is the softest and cuddliest blanket you’ll ever own! This baby blanket is edged with soft silky satin and has ultra soft plush faux fur fabric that you’ll never want to be without it. It’s loved so much that my baby girl, who is now 17 years old, still sleeps with it every single night. Just one word of caution – do not put it in the dryer or it will forever change your favorite blanket.
Little Unicorn
I became obsessed with these swaddle blankets when I previewed them at a baby show in NYC a couple of years ago. Of course the cute little patterns made them extra sweet but my clients love that they are 100% cotton muslin and breathable. Cuddle & Kind
Okay…definitely not an “essential” baby item but c’mon… how cute are they!
